Artes Mundi is an international contemporary visual arts initiative, committed to recognising and showing some of the most exciting emerging artists from around the world and to inspiring new and existing audiences. Every two years a shortlist is selected and a body of work by each artist is shown. The Artes Mundi 5 Exhibition at National Museum Cardiff, 6th October 2012 – 13th January 2013 will feature seven artists whose work discusses the human condition and engages with social reality and lived experience. The theme enables the public to witness the way in which artists throughout the world comment upon society from their different perspectives. The Artes Mundi Prize will be awarded in November 2012 to one of the shortlisted artists.

Artes Mundi is looking for a team of Live Guides / workshop leaders to work in its forthcoming exhibition and to support its public and community engagement programme. The Live Guides will be involved in interpreting individual works, discussing ideas which derive from them and the exhibition as a whole. This will involve answering questions from visitors, giving guided tours and devising and facilitating specific workshops catering for a wide variety of audiences including families, schools, colleges as well as community and corporate groups.
• Do you have knowledge of and a passion for contemporary art?
• Do you have a fine art related education qualification?
• Can you communicate clearly - verbally and through writing at a range of levels with individuals of all ages?
• Are you enthusiastic, punctual and reliable?

Individuals will be required to familiarise themselves thoroughly with the work of each artist and the cultural context of the work.

Full training will be provided. The rate of pay is £12.16 per hour (this rate includes 12 in respect of holiday pay), and both part-time and full time positions are available.
