Statement

Current work explores the dialectic between inside and outside,the natural and the manmade. It calls upon my inherence in the world; for example my experience of walking in the landscape as opposed to the interior psychology of the studio. Engagement with universal themes has necessitated a formal reduction regarding composition and palette. This austerity focuses both on the essence of an idea and the the aesthetic materiality of paint on canvas. Thus, painting becomes a metaphor dealing with the phenomena that I am referencing, for example, light, time, transience, presence and absence. my practice is located within the tradition of the Northern Romantic Abstract Sublime.
