Statement

James Selway was born and spent his childhood in a mountain village in South Wales, United Kingdom and now lives and works in the Barcelona area of Spain.

He studied art for three years at Swansea College of Art and later at Trinity College, Carmarthen. He became the Head of a highly successful Art Department in South London Secondary School. He later left teaching and continued to paint while carrying out various commissions including a large painting of the 'Annunciation' at the Roman Catholic National Shrine in Walsingham, Norfolk and design work for Southwark Cathedral, London.

He has exhibited extensively in various galleries in the United Kingdom, United States and Spain and his work has been purchased by private collectors in the United Kingdom, USA, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Ireland.

James paints with oil, acrylic and water colour and his subject matter is also extensive and includes landscapes, city scenes and figures. He tends to choose particular areas as a source for his paintings: various regions of Spain, Southern France, Italy, Morocco, England and his native Wales.
