Statement

Anthony Shapland is an artist and the co-founder of g39, an artist run organisation in Cardiff’s City centre. At g39 he works closely with artists, curators, writers and arts organisations to build up a strong network of support and advocacy for contemporary visual art in Wales. Alongside this curatorial role he continues his practice as an artist, producing work that seeks to find significance in the actions and interactions of people during insignificant moments or transitional spaces.

In motion, in travelling, the world is opened up but the speed at which it keeps changing makes it impossible to dwell on any one thing for very long. I am working counter to this. By dwelling or concentrating on the banal and often unnoticed events around us, phenomenological events, social interactions, beginnings and full-stops become part of a wider arena; they take centre stage and become the main event.
