Statement

Mark Youd trained as a draughtsman, and in parallel to a successful career as a designer and technical illustrator he has been developing his personal artistic practice.

This work explores his influences and intuition, and currently focuses on graphic portraits using traditional media.

The paintings in this series each depict a brief moment, a glimpse of a woman, perhaps passing the opposite direction on an escalator or brushed passed in a crowd, and in that moment you connect with her and somehow you are able to experience her thoughts and feelings, even daydreams. These images are an attempt to record that sensation before it fades.
