Statement

Since embarking and subsequently qualifying in Fine art I have continued to develop my conceptual ideas and artistic ideals. I have primarily been interested in producing art work that the viewer can identify with on a personal level. Choosing subject matter and mediums/materials that I believe best communicate with the public in general as apposed to the artistic system alone. I attempt to produce an 'accessible art' Beginning with my own personal relationship with the artistic process as a cathartic experience I hoped to draw the viewer into projecting their own feelings and emotions onto my work, thus discovering something about themselves or the world around them. Through researching artists such as Haim Steinbach I developed a passion for a social commentary of real people and a desire to connect with them. Over recent years I have been interested in some of the social psychological illnesses of our postmodern culture. I believe that society is suffering from a collective state of anxiety. Whilst trying to compete in the world of commodity we have unwittingly neglected our natural or spiritual needs. A large portion of my work has attempted to address this by bringing it to the attention of the possibly previously unaware viewer.
