Statement
Sigita Valaikaite is a contemporary applied artist working in a variety of media, such as felt, paper and inks. Sigita is a creative person, finding inspiration in everyday life. Originally from Vilnius, Lithuania she is currently based in Swansea, South Wales.
From felt she makes bold, minimalist jewellery. She likes to use and combine bright colours and techniques in her work. Felt work is not only based on jewellery, Sigita also produces felt objects which can be used for the interior or living spaces.
Sigita also produces a range of works on paper including handmade postcards. These are created through a combination of photographs, drawings, printed pictures, on hand made paper created by the artist.
She is member of Swansea print workshop and is interested in working with dry point, screen printing and lino cut techniques.
Sigita is a trained Social worker and has a history of combining art with crafts and socially based projects. Through her work Sigita tries to raise the potential and confidence of people with disabilities through art and crafts workshops. This continues to inspire and inform her work.
