Cardiff Café Culture
Where do artists meet and get their caffeine fix?
We are probably all familiar with Chapter as being ‘the’ place to meet and talk shop, but recently I’ve been noticing a number new cafes for either meeting up or indulging in the solo displacement activities such as surfing the net or staring blankly into a strong coffee after a night at the Buffalo Bar.
Shot in the Dark on city road has long held a soft spot for arty types on the ‘eastside’ while in the bay, outside at Kemi’s or bar One (part of the WMC) are great in the lunchtime and early evening.
Since the sad demise of Krockertons in chip alley, (wasn’t that place great!) recent additions through established ‘evil’ chains have appeared around the St.David 2 building site.
However in Church Street, 3 new café/bars have opened; 10 Feet Tall in the Buffalo bar/club/food mode is very swish then there are 2 new cafe. The very cool Brazil and 3 doors down, Pipi’s with its Mediterranean influenced exotic cakes, both with WiFi.
In a recent conversation, Alex at Pipi’s is keen to have art on the walls upstairs and this opens another forum thread of artworks in cafes, venues and pitfalls please.

So now this thread splits in two……………
1....where do you recommend for a drink and chat and
2...what other cafés show artworks in Cardiff ?
List cafes on the thread…….
OVER to you x

FYI
Details of Pipi’s
Pipi’s is located at 8 Church Street, Cardiff.
(the church end)
If you think your work maybe be suitable check out the space and ask for Alex. Personally speaking the area may suit photography better, being public, framed and fronted also being safer.
